Who was Thomas A. Scott?
Thomas Alexander Scott was an American industrialist and railroad executive. He served as the fourth President of the Pennsylvania Railroad, one of the largest transportation companies in the world. He also held a number of other important positions, including Director of the Union Pacific Railroad and Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Atchison, Topeka & Santa Fe Railway. A skilled administrator, Scott oversaw a period of tremendous growth for the Pennsylvania Railroad, helping to transform it into a major player in the emerging railroad industry. He also played a key role in the development of America’s transcontinental railroad system, helping to connect the East Coast with the West. A highly respected figure in his field, Scott was often referred to as the “Grand Old Man” of American railroading. He died in 1881 at the age of 66. Thomas A.
